As per the historical records, the village is called Chola Marthanda Chathurvethi Mangalam. More than 2000 years back, Veppathur was considered as Ghatikasthalam, recognised for education and culture with a large number of temples spreading the heritage of Tamil culture. The Chola King observed this and installed a new village in the adjoining area Bhagavathapuram as a dwelling place for all those proficient in Vedas. |
